New culinary arts cruises on Silversea for 2005

By: Ana Figueroa

Silversea Cruises will offer eleven unique Culinary Arts themed cruises in 2005, in conjunction with the prestigious association of boutique hotels and restaurants, Relais & Châteaux - Relais Gourmands.

The program will feature the award-winning artistry of noted chefs from around the world, including Eyvind Hellstrøm of Oslo’s Bagatelle, a Michelin Two Star restaurant; Alois Vanlangenaeker , the Michelin Star chef of Il San Pietro Hotel in Positano, Italy; and Rick Tramonto, partner and executive chef of Chicago’s Tru, a Mobil Four Star and AAA Five Diamond restaurant.

“Our guests are sophisticated world travelers with a keen interest in personal development and continuing education, and our Culinary Arts cruises are a great way to meld together exciting travel destinations with cooking events and demonstrations that entertain and edify, as well as reveal the personalities, skills - and a few culinary secrets - of the masters of haute cuisine,” said Barbara Muckermann, Silversea’s senior vice president, worldwide marketing and communications.

The distinguished guest chefs will inform and entertain guests during cooking demonstrations. Guests will help create (and sample) signature dishes from master chefs, such as Robert Carter, executive chef of the Mobil Four Star and AAA Four Diamond Peninsula Grill at Planters Inn, Charleston, South Carolina; Paul Wade, executive chef of the Mobil Four Star Montagna restaurant at The Little Nell, Aspen, Colorado; Marc Fosh, the Michelin Star executive chef of the gourmet restaurant at Read’s Hotel, Santa María, Mallorca; and Joachim Koerper, the Michelin Two Star chef/owner of Spain’s famed Girasol restaurant.

The Culinary Arts cruises also feature unique food and wine pairings, specially prepared regional dishes, and a five-course grand gourmet dinner. Throughout the voyage, the featured guest chef and Silversea’s executive chef will share their culinary expertise and answer guests’ questions.

In addition to the dazzling array of culinary expertise, the Culinary Arts cruises will offer a taste of some of the world’s most spectacular scenery. Guests will have the opportunity to discover the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu on the slopes of the Andes Mountains; experience the glamour and nightlife of the French Riviera in Monte Carlo; soak up the sun on a Caribbean beach, or relax with a leisurely bike ride along Québec’s beautiful St. Lawrence River.
