Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, completed a major construction milestone in September as the 265-ton final building block was placed on the bow at the Meyer Werft shipyard.
The Fantasy will feature the offerings found on the recently launched Disney Dream such as the AquaDuck water coaster, as well as new elements. These include Europa, a nighttime entertainment district exclusively for guests ages 18 and older that features sophisticated bars and lounges inspired by Europe. Venues showcase Italian, French, Irish and English themes.
There is also a new show designed for the Animator’s Palate restaurant. Diners will participate by drawing a character of their own at the beginning of dinner. A show follows, featuring montages from Disney’s animated films and shorts. Then, there is a parade with Mickey Mouse leading guests’ drawings in a “march” across the screens around the dining room. The animation of the drawings becomes increasingly more elaborate and, then, the drawings step into scenes from Disney movies and skip, skate and dance side-by-side with characters such as Mickey Mouse, Jiminy Cricket, Cinderella and Snow White.
At the conclusion of the show, Mickey returns to say goodbye to the guests and, as he does, credits roll on the screen, showing each person’s name listed as a guest animator. To commemorate the experience, diners will have their character drawing returned to them with a gold seal, identifying them as Official Disney Animators.
The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will debut onboard the Disney Fantasy, providing young princesses and pirates with pixie-dusted and piratical makeovers in a special salon setting.
Disney’s “Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” will take the stage onboard the Fantasy. During this Broadway-style production, many of the classic scenes and songs from the movie are recreated on stage, and some of the action spills into the aisles. A magic-carpet scene combines mechanical wizardry with state-of-the-art projections, and many of the songs from the movie are featured, plus an original one written for the stage production.
Disney’s new Fantasy will sail alternating seven-night cruises from Port Canaveral, Fla., to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. The maiden voyage is scheduled for March 31, 2012. Prices start at $959.
