First Choice Holidays To Acquire Intrav, Inc.

U.K.-based First Choice Holidays PLC will acquire the cruise operator next month

U.K.-based First Choice Holidays PLC will acquire the deluxe-tour and small-ship cruise operator Intrav Inc. in January.

Headquartered in Crawley, West Sussex, England, First Choice is a market leader in activity adventure holidays. Founded in 1973, the company operates in 17 countries and already has a presence in the North American market with a variety of brands including just-acquired Grand Expeditions.

“We’re delighted to join a formidable company that values the niche travel and expeditionary cruise business in which Intrav specializes,” said Intrav Chief Executive Officer David Drier. “Our unique style of travel and cruising will complement and enhance First Choice’s other niche-focused brands. Intrav’s discerning clients can rest assured that this acquisition will enhance our efforts in providing outstanding worldwide travel experiences.”

According to First Choice CEO Peter Long, the company has identified North America as a key source market for specialized niche segments. “When the acquisition of Intrav is completed, it will enhance [First Choice’s] current expedition cruising offerings, as well complement Grand Expedition’s premium escorted tour businesses,” said Long.

Founded in 1959, St. Louis-based Intrav comprised of INTRAV and Clipper Cruise Line has built its reputation as a designer and operator of deluxe international travel and small-ship cruises on every continent.
