Carnival’s Evolutions of Fun upgrades are in full swing on the Carnival Imagination. And on a recent cruise with my nine-month-old daughter, we had the opportunity to explore them firsthand.

After 35 days in dry dock in November, the 70,000-ton Carnival Imagination debuted with enhanced, resort-style amenities, refurbished public rooms and the largest waterslide at sea in the brand-new Carnival WaterWorks aqua park. The ship is the second in Carnival’s $250 million Evolutions of Fun program, a series of “extreme makeovers” upgrading the line’s fantasy-class ships.

Definitely one of the highlights of the ship’s renovation is the WaterWorks, where passengers lined up to try out the new super slide. The 300-foot-long behemoth shoots guests through a long tube, where they emerge in a pool of rushing water. Also in the WaterWorks area are dual racing slides and a water-spray apparatus, which keeps the youngest cruisers entertained.

Several new features appeal to adults only. A new Serenity area features two whirlpools and loads of loungers, as well as Wi-Fi access and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for taking a nap, surfing the net and enjoying the Caribbean sunshine.

Onboard dining also underwent a transformation. As part of Carnival’s Total Choice Dining, clients can choose from the Seaview Bistro, Pride and Spirit dining rooms, the 24-hour pizzeria and the poolside Horizon Bar & Grill. In addition, guests can opt to dine in their stateroom with complimentary, 24-hour room service. Health-conscious cruisers can also select from Carnival’s healthy choices menu, Spa Carnival Fare, which is low in calories and cholesterol and sodium.

longest waterslide at sea.
One of the most popular programs onboard is Camp Carnival, with activities available for children of every age. One of the most-anticipated activities was the Build a Bear workshop where kids build a stuffed bear to take home as a souvenir. Carnival also offers babysitting services for children under the age of 2, which gives parents the freedom to take a night off and enjoy Carnival’s nightly entertainment.

Of course for many cruisers, the highlight of a ship is its spa and fitness facility, and the Imagination offers a spacious fitness area and beautiful spa. The 12,000-square-foot facility features new gym equipment, workout classes, spa treatments at Spa Carnival, including exotic, European-style treatments.

Currently, the Carnival Imagination offers four- and five-day Caribbean itineraries departing from Miami. Four-day cruises leaving on Thursdays call in Key West and Cozumel. Five-day itineraries, leaving on Mondays, stop in Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Nassau. Five-day voyages departing on Saturdays go to Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios.

In September, Carnival Imagination will launch year-round three- and four-day cruises from Miami. Three-day itineraries will stop in Nassau overnight, and four-day voyages will visit Cozumel and Key West. At that time, the Carnival Destiny will assume Imagination’s four- and five-day journeys.
