MSC Christens Magnifica, Orders Favalosa

Ship debuts with four restaurants in addition to a 4-D cinema and mini bowling alley.

MSC Magnifica, the fourth Panamax cruise ship in MSC Cruises’ Musica class, was christened in Hamburg, Germany, on March 6 as the line’s 11th vessel. Sophia Loren served as godmother of the ship, her eighth in the MSC fleet.

A magrodome covers one of Magnifica’s four pools, and the ship has four restaurants as well as a large new buffet area, Sahara, which serves Italian and international cuisine. There is also an a la carte restaurant, L’Oasi, offering fine dining in an exotic Moroccan atmosphere with the culinary expertise of Michelin-star chef Mauro Uliassi.

A 4-D cinema, a mini bowling alley and a sports bar were also introduced onboard.

Magnifica sails seven-night Eastern Mediterranean itineraries out of Venice, Italy.

Three days after the Magnifica flag ceremony at the STX Europe shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, MSC signed a letter of intent for another ship to be delivered in June 2012: the 1,751-stateroom Favolossa.
