Last week, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) announced a new partnership with Dreamworks Animation SKG, Inc. the animated film studios, to bring new family programming and entertainment onboard. The alliance will launch in December, with the launch of Allure of the Seas, before it is rolled out onboard Oasis of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean and Dreamworks Animation share many of the same philosophies when it comes to high-quality family entertainment, so there is quite a lot of synergy going into this strategic alliance, said Adam Goldstein, president and CEO of RCI. “We are constantly striving to offer dynamic and engaging programming onboard our ships and couldn’t think of a better brand than Dreamworks animation to help take it to the next level.”

Characters from Dreamworks Animation’s movies, such as “Shrek,” “Madagascar,” “Kung Fu Panda” and “How to Train Your Dragon,” will appear in onboard parades, special events, character meals and more. Allure of the Seas will also showcase Dreamworks Animation’s characters in its new aquatic show and the ship will feature a “How to Train Your Dragon” ice show. RCI’s Adventure Ocean children’s program will also include activities, games and adventures rooted in the studios’ popular movies.

In addition to the appearance of live characters onboard, Royal Caribbean theaters will be upgraded with 3D technology and new 3D screens will be added, enabling passengers to view both new and longtime favorite Dreamworks Animation movies on the big screen.
