Intrepid families looking to travel to the chilly southernmost part of the Earth can save on an Antarctica sailing with Abercrombie & Kent (A&K). On its Dec. 13 departure of the Antarctica, South Georgia & the Falkland Islands itinerary, the luxury tour operator is offering savings of 25 percent on suites (cabin categories 4 and 5). Additionally, the first child saves 50 percent, and a second child sails for free. On the 15-night sailing across the Southern Ocean, families can spot wildlife in South Georgia, marvel at the rugged Falklands and take in views of icy Antarctica.

The itinerary is led by a knowledgeable Expedition Team and will take travelers deep into the polar latitudes. Clients ages 7 to 18 can participate in A&K’s Young Explorers Program, during which dedicated Young Explorers Guides lead groups of children and teens in activities such as squid dissection, Japanese fish printing and deep sea presentations with a marine biologist.

Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park is offering families a chance to spend some quality outdoor time together with its Kids & Kites Package. The deal includes overnight accommodations for two adults and two children in a Fairmont double/double guestroom, breakfast buffet for two adults and two kids in Millennium Restaurant, two Fairmont kites and milk and cookies made by the Fairmont Chicago culinary team.

Though the package is available year-round, it’s recommended that families book it outside of Chicago’s harsh winter months. Rates for the offer begin at $264 per night.

Keystone, a popular ski resort outside of Denver with more than 3,000 acres of skiable terrain, is celebrating the fifth birthday of its Kids Ski Free Program — which is also the age that kids can officially join the program. In honor of its five years in service, guests can take part in complimentary skiing and free Kidtopia events and parties, including a special weekly birthday bash with Ripperoo, the resort’s canine ski mascot.

This year, when adults book two or more nights in a Keystone accommodation option, which spans from hotel rooms to family-size condominiums, kids 12 and younger ski for free at the resort with no blackout dates. Since the start of the Kids Ski Free Program in 2012, the resort has provided more than 100,000 free kids’ lift tickets to families.

Additionally, Keystone offers free parking, including front-row family parking, and complimentary red wagons in which to carry gear (and children) to and from the slopes.

Families staying at Florida’s Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort can take advantage of the last days of summer with the Extra Sun, Extra Fun package. In addition to complimentary valet, guests who stay two nights receive a $50 resort credit; those who stay four nights receive a $125 resort credit; and families staying six nights receive a $250 resort credit.

The credit can be used toward many different family-friendly activities, including Camp Amelia, a day camp where children ages 4 to 12 learn about nature and wildlife; Heron’s Cove Adventure Golf, a nautically themed mini-golf course; Amelia’s Wheels, where guests can rent bicycles, four- and six-passenger Island Hopper golf carts, Segways, baby joggers and baby trailers; and watersports equipment. The package runs until the end of 2016.

North Carolina
Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville, located in Asheville, N.C.’s historic Biltmore Village, is offering mystery fans the Serafina Package, inspired by The New York Times bestselling Serafina series by author Robert Beatty. The historical mystery-thriller novels, which take place in the mountains and forests around Asheville, center around a 12-year-old girl who lives secretly in the basement of Biltmore Estate.

The package, which will run through the end of the year, includes a signed copy of the newest book, Serafina and the Twisted Staff; overnight accommodations; two tickets to Biltmore Estate; complimentary gourmet breakfast for two children ages 16 and under in Grand Bohemian’s Red Stag Grill; two coupons for complimentary scoops of Serafina Dark Forest Flavor ice cream from The Hop ice cream cafe; and an adventure map that provides a guide to Serafina’s Mountains, helping children explore the young heroine’s world.
