Two Hawaii courses take home Gold Medals from Golf magazine

Maui’s Wailea Golf Club and Kauai Lagoons Golf Club have once again been named to Golf magazine’s elite list of 25 Gold Medal Resorts for 2004-2005. The biennial award is based upon an extensive survey of Golf magazine’s readers.

Hailed as the perfect balance between doing everything and doing nothing, the Wailea Golf Club features three courses within close proximity to the resort’s luxury accommodations.

Readers surveyed applauded the Wailea club with comments like “the most beautiful courses on the island.” Another reader went on to add, “I felt like a member of the course from the time I arrived at the bag drop.”

According to Rick Castillo, head PGA pro at Wailea, the award truly reflects the quality of the Wailea destination.

“The overall experience at Wailea is what we consider the best in the state,” Castillo said. “It’s nice to be recognized.”

Golf magazine described the Kauai Lagoons Kiele Course as a superior test that skirts ocean cliffs and freshwater lagoons. The back nine at the Kiele is memorably dramatic. Readers remarked that Kauai Lagoons is a wonderful resort. The course was noted for its lush fairways and greens.

Both courses are list veterans. The Kauai Lagoons Golf Club previously earned the magazine’s Gold Medal award four times, while Wailea has been selected twice. Both resorts are also on Golf Digest’s prestigious list of the 75 best golf resorts in the country.

Kauai Lagoons Resort is home to two Jack Nicklaus-designed courses the Kiele and Mokihana. Overlooking picturesque Nawiliwili Harbor, the 750-acre resort offers complimentary shuttle transportation between the airport, Kauai Lagoons Golf Club and the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club.
