Few places are as romantic as the Bali Hai setting of Hanalei on
Kauai’s North Shore. Taking full advantage of its postcard-perfect
locale, Hanalei Colony Resort has long been a favorite choice for
couples celebrating honeymoons, anniversaries or other romantic
The intimate hideaway is nestled on a long curve of golden beach
against a backdrop of jagged mountains near the end of the road in
Haena, Kauai’s remote northernmost town.
For couples wanting to “tie the knot” in this scenic stage, the
resort offers the services of a wedding coordinator, plus a variety
of wedding packages and amenities.
“We started our wedding business because we found that we had many
honeymooners coming to stay with us, and then they would return
year after year,” noted Laura Richards, general manager. “Looking
at the fact that many of our returning guests were getting older
and/or buying property on Kauai, we thought honeymooners would be
our new up and coming returning guest,” she added. “It’s fun in
that then they have children and we get to know them as a growing
family and a part of our Ohana.”
Hanalei Colony’s “Weddings with Aloha” nuptial services and
amenities can include coordination of a simple beachfront ceremony
for two to a lavish affair with all the trimmings.
“The resort has no real change when a small wedding is held on
property, except the other guest always get excited when they see a
bride walking out,” Beemer remarked. “When we have a large group,
of course there’s excitement in the air.”
For 2006, “Weddings with Aloha” offers a range of five pre-set
wedding ceremony packages. The simple “Intimate Kauai Wedding” is
priced at $500, while the “Romantic Kauai Wedding” (including a
romantic dinner for two on the beach and a one-hour couples’
massage) is $2,385.
In addition to the packages, the property can arrange a large
selection of “a la carte” items to suit couples’ personal wishes.
Options include hula dancers, fire knife dancers, tropical flower
tiki torches and fresh flower leis.
Spa and salon packages are also available for the wedding couple
or bridal party at the on-site Hanalei Day Spa. Wedding receptions
can be held in Hanalei Colony’s pool pavilion, beach garden or
elegant oceanfront Makana Room.
The property’s “Kauai Wedding & Honeymoon Getaway” package
puts it all together for couples wanting to wed and honeymoon at
the resort. The seven-night plan covers a two-bedroom Premium
Oceanfront condominium, wedding coordination for on-property
ceremony, marriage license appointment, minister and witness (if
necessary), two orchid leis, champagne toast for two, keepsake
wedding gift, daily convertible rental car use, one-hour couples’
