Kona Village Is All About Ease

Quality time with the family is a breeze at this Hawaiian oasis

For more than forty years, Kona Village Resort has offered refuge for families seeking time together time to rejuvenate and time to get reacquainted with one another while learning and experiencing the true Hawaii. As Hawaii's only nearly-all-inclusive resort, the Polynesian-style property accomplishes this and more in a splendid Big Island setting.

Nestled amid abundant tropical landscaping in individual thatched roof hale (bungalows), families learn firsthand about the culture of Hawaii, while doing as much or as little as they like each day and enjoying one another in the process.

Kona Village rates are inclusive of three island-inspired meals daily served oceanfront (special children's dinner service is offered nightly), a Wednesday and Friday evening luau with music and dance reflective of Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures, a Tuesday evening Paniolo (cowboy) BBQ, a daily program of complimentary children's (ages 5-12) activities (except May and September), and dozens of daily pastimes geared to the whole family.

The fun includes bamboo pole fishing contests in the resort's ponds, ukulele classes, ti-leaf hula skirt making, hula lessons, lawn games, and unlimited use of the resort’s tennis courts and fitness center. Guests can learn about the surrounding area during guided historical and petrogylph tours that share the rich culture of this once-thriving Hawaiian fishing village.

For families who love the water, Kona Village is ideal. Included in the rates are most non-motorized water sports equipment such as kayaks, laser sailboats, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, surf boards and outrigger canoes for excursions in pristine Kahuwai Bay, fronting the resort's sandy beach. Following a one-time instructional safety lesson (fee applies), use of stand-up paddleboards and windsurfing is included for the remainder of a guest's stay.

"The inclusive pricing of meals and activities at Kona Village creates so much value for our guests when compared to other resorts," said Ulrich Krauer, general manager. "Families love knowing they can participate in so many things without worrying about added costs. And the most amazing thing happens to families when they come to Kona Village - they actually reconnect and talk to one another!"

The resort offers a vast array of scuba options for seasoned regulars who have dived around the world or beginners still discovering the mesmerizing world beneath the ocean's surface. Programs for kids range from Bubble Makers for younger children to the Seal Team, that allows children to participate in five PADI Aqua Missions for Seal Team certification.

Another option allows non-certified divers to experience the thrill of scuba diving in the protected environment of the bay. The resort's exciting ribcraft (rigid inflatable boat) offers snorkel adventures along the coastline, seasonal teen-only cruises to remote beaches, and sunset cruises for families and friends.

Other resort activities include luxurious spa treatments, deep-sea fishing and private tennis lessons. Kona Village's on-site concierge can arrange car rentals and island excursions such as helicopter tours to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, horseback riding and golf.

A large two-room hale comfortably accommodates up to three while an ohana (family) hale can sleep up to nine. Each spacious hale offers a refrigerator that is kept stocked with complimentary bottled water, juices and soft drinks. If Big Island touring is on the day's itinerary, then box lunches or off-property lunch vouchers are provided.

Through December 21, rates are from $975 per night (plus tax and gratuity) for a two-room hale sleeping three persons. Children four and under are complimentary. Additional guest rates are based on guest age.

From lei greeting to meals, tennis to ocean activities and children's programs to fitness center use, the inclusive list of amenities means that families can simply enjoy Hawaii and one another without added expenses.
