Packages announced on the heels of industry accolades

When it comes to industry nods, it’s always rewarding to be recognized by those who frequently travel. Such was the case recently with Mauna Lani Bay Resort & Bungalows, as it was ranked fourth among the top 30 Pacific Rim resorts by readers of Conde Nast Traveler. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Energy (DOE) and Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) also honored Mauna Lani Resort in the same period for its work in significantly advancing development of the green power market.

“We’re honored to receive these awards, as they acknowledge our long term commitment to providing excellent service with genuine aloha,” noted Kurt Matsumoto, General Manager of the property. “Mauna Lani has always been dedicated to being good stewards of the land - the recognition we received from the EPA and DOE validates that.”

The Big Island resort has created five special packages for 2005 that allow both returnees and new visitors to experience what all the award recognition reflects.

With a minimum three-night stay, the Mauna Lani Experience Package includes daily Bay Terrace buffet breakfast for two from $350 nightly in standard accommodations to $760 in an ocean view suite. Guests paying published rates for ocean view or higher categories receive a $150 dining credit at the Bay Terrace or Gallery Restaurant (does not include back-to-back consecutive stays).

“Approximately 80% of our guests book this package, mostly to take advantage of our breakfast offering before heading off to enjoy their favorite activities,” said Matsumoto. “Breakfast, especially among families, has become the most popular dining gathering.”

For golfers, the Mauna Lani Golf Package is priced from $485 nightly for standard accommodations to $850 for an ocean view suite. The plan covers a day of unlimited golf per person per paid room night (maximum two people), with any subsequent round(s) bookable after completion of the first round on that day.

Matsumoto explained that Mauna Lani golf is both challenging and scenic. “Golfers love the beautiful scenery, challenging drives with forgiving fairways, an extraordinary lavascape, and of course, being able to walk in the footsteps of playing legends such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and Chi Chi Rodriguez participants in the annual Senior Skins Game competition formerly held at here.”

Geared to families preferring space and privacy, the Mauna Lani Ohana Package provides two guest rooms - one for active kids and the other for adult privacy. As a bonus, the property’s Kid’s Day camp is complimentary for two children (ages 5 - 12) per family. Meals are additional. Nightly rates are from $620 for two ocean view rooms to $950 for two ocean view suites.

For those who love to indulge, the Pick Your Passion Package features two amenity certificates per paid room night that are valid for a choice of one of the following: one day of unlimited golf with a shared cart (subsequent rounds per day may only be booked after completion of the first round on that day), one 50-minute spa treatment (maximum two treatments per room), one personal training session/one group fitness class per day, or dinner at a choice of The Gallery, Bay Terrace or Canoe House (entree, appetizer and dessert). Package rates are from $485 nightly for a standard room, with ocean view suites from $850.

What makes Pick Your Passion so appealing to Mauna Lani guests is its flexibility, said Matsumoto. “Guests don’t have to commit to activities prior to their stay. Each morning they can wake up and decide what activity they’d like to partake in. Or if they just want to kick back and relax, then they can enjoy several dining options. People appreciate having choices.”

Honeymooners and those celebrating their anniversary can enjoy the five-night Romantic Interludes Package in an ocean view room from $3,075 or in an ocean front room from $3,395. This special plan includes champagne upon arrival, daily breakfast for two (buffet or private dining), two 50-minute spa treatments, a circle island/volcano helicopter tour for two, and a choice of snorkel cruise or sunset sail or Canoe House dinner for two. Special rates are available for additional nights.

“With our location among ancient fishponds on 29 oceanfront acres, Mauna Lani has been traditionally known for its stunning setting and traditional Hawaiian hospitality,” commented Matsumoto. “With only 347 guest rooms, the resort offers plenty of room to roam. We encourage guests to discover their own romantic hideaways, from secluded oceanside pathways and cabanas to the Mauna Lani Spa with its outdoor treatment hales and lava sauna.”

Available through December 20, 2005, all package rates are based on single or double occupancy. Inclusions have no cash value and are nontransferable or redeemable for other amenities or services.
