Hawaii Island offers an invigorating assortment of outdoor adventures, and that includes some of the state’s best golf courses. Now the 22-acre oceanfront Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa is making it possible for visitors to sample three of the island’s finest fairways courtesy of its new Kona Golf Trail package.
Priced from $259 per night for two golfers in a partial ocean view room, the deal starts with a round on one of Kona Country Club's two 18-hole courses, within steps of the hotel. Its Ocean course, designed by William Bell, hugs the sea while offering mountain views; the Mountain course, designed by Bell with Nelson and Robin Wright, provides vistas of the Kona coastline, while ancient lava flows distinguish the setting.
The second course included in the package — the Dick Nugent-designed Makalei Golf Club — boasts an elevation range from 1,800-2,850 feet. Features include lava tubes, cinder cones and a stone wall dating back more than a century.
Wrapping up the package is a round at the Perry Dye-designed Big Island Country Club, featuring wide fairways and water in play on nine of the 18 holes.
When two people experience these three courses on an a la carte basis, the cost can add up to $650. But, when clients book Sheraton Keauhou’s Kona Golf Trail package for three nights, they get accommodations and three rounds of golf for as little as $727, making it a value-added golf dream vacation-come-true.
