Attention runners: The first Kauai Marathon is scheduled for Mar. 16, 2003. Winding through sugar cane and coffee fields, the 26.2-mile footrace starts and finishes in Poipu on the South Shore of the island. Along the way, participants jog along scenic four-wheel-drive dirt roads, up and down a series of four challenging hills.

All finishers receive T-shirts, medals and certificates. Awards go to first-, second- and third-place finishers in male and female age groups.
