Insider Tip:
“There’s nothing quite like it. Hundreds of smiling faces, tiny fingers strumming and picking, creating joyful melodies that fill the air on a balmy summer day in Waikiki.”

— Roy Sakuma, Ukulele Festival Hawaii

Event: Sweet Sounds
Nothing sets a playful tone quite like July 16’s Ukulele Festival Hawaii (UkuleleFestivalHawaii.org) at Kapiolani Park. The largest event of its kind, this musical fete nods to the four-string instrument via strummers of all ages, ukulele displays, giveaways, lessons and food booths.

Activity: Calling Collectors
One of the world’s largest assemblages of Hawaiiana relics and memorabilia beneath one roof, the 27th Annual Hawaii All-Collectors Show (Ukulele.com/collect.html) will showcase treasures from 100-plus dealers at Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall on July 16. Peruse antiques, artwork, jewelry, vintage aloha shirts, tiki crafts, ukuleles and more. No one leaves empty handed!

Shopping: Arts Festival
From July 15-16, more than 140 visual artists and crafters will gather at Haleiwa Beach Park for the 20th Annual Haleiwa Arts Festival (HaleiwaArts Festival.org). The colorful celebration features chalk art events and workshops in support of arts education in the North Shore community.

Culinary: Cheers!
On Aug. 4, The Joy of Sake (JoyOfSake.com) toasts Hawaii’s centuries-old love affair with the iconic rice-based beverage. Held at the Hawaii Convention Center, the tasteful affair follows its annual U.S. National Sake Appraisal blind tasting by pairing the libation with signature dishes created by island eateries.
