With the debut of Kauai Shores, an Aqua Hospitality hotel, travel agents have a new way to tap the growing visitor interest in the town of Kapaa, located on the eastern coast of the island.
Aqua Hotels and Resorts invested $10 million to upgrade the former Kauai Sands Hotel, a two-story, low-rise property with 200 guestrooms and a pair of outdoor swimming pools.
The hotel’s guestrooms now sport retro-modern decor of lime green, aqua and orange, with hip touches such as platform beds and curved mirrors. Outdoor improvements resulted in new poolside lounge furniture, bright umbrellas and colorful partitions between guestrooms’ lanai.
With the renovation, the property was elevated from Aqua Hospitality’s LITE brand to its boutique brand, something the company has done extensively on Oahu.
“This was our opportunity to take the concept to the neighbor islands,” said Elizabeth Churchill, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Aqua Hospitality and Aston Hotels and Resorts.
Churchill called Kauai Shores “a charming product with a sense of place that lends itself to the feeling of old Hawaii, which is often found on the neighbor islands.”
Thanks to its renovation and rebranding, Kauai Shores can now target a greater cross-section of clientele, including U.S. travelers from the western U.S., said Churchill. The location of the property in one of America’s prettiest towns, according to Forbes, adds to its selling power.
“Kapaa is really coming into its own, and Kauai Shores provides a great way for agents to experience it,” Churchill said. “While it used to be a sleepy town, it now features a wonderful oceanfront bike path, river activities, golf, art galleries, shopping and some of the best restaurants on the island.”
Additionally, Kapaa is convenient to popular visitor attractions around the island.
Kauai Shores is offering an introductory special of 15 percent off stays through Sept. 30.
