Located along the shores of Tel Aviv and near the tourist hubs of Neve Tzedek and Jaffa, InterContinental David Tel Aviv serves as a perfect starting point for clients looking to explore one of Israel’s busiest metropolises. Guests of this beachside property can enlist the services of Ronen Alkalai, chief concierge for the hotel for the past 18 years and president of Les Clefs D’or Israel, the national organization for hotel lobby concierges.

What sets the property apart from other high-end hotel options in Tel Aviv?
InterContinental David Tel Aviv is a part of InterContinental Hotels Group, an international chain of luxury hotels. When our guests arrive, they know they will enjoy the highest service standard — a level that can only be expected from such a renowned chain.

Our hotel is located a short walking distance from the picturesque neighborhood of Neve Tzedek, known as the “SoHo” of Tel Aviv; the Carmel market; and the center of Old Jaffa. Being situated in the heart of Tel Aviv affords our guests the opportunity to enjoy a very authentic Tel Avivian experience.

Where do you suggest first-time visitors to Tel Aviv go?
The best way to kick-start your Tel Aviv experience is by taking a walk down the promenade, heading toward the old city of Jaffa, so that you can enjoy spectacular views of Tel Aviv’s skyline and beach.

What about clients who are repeat visitors looking for some “under-the-radar” spots?
I love strolling through the Carmel market and looking for new hidden culinary gems so that I can provide guests with insider information. Another great way to stay up-to-date with the hottest “under-the-radar” spots in Tel Aviv is through our tips on Instagram. Just look for our hashtag #ICShowandTel and discover our ever-evolving exclusive collection.

What advice would you give to travel agents who have clients with reservations about safety and security in Israel?
Like any major city, we like to remind our guests to be aware of their surroundings. We often ask travel agents to relay this information to their clients and share that Tel Aviv is a safe and beautiful destination to visit.

Do you have a favorite memory from your time as a concierge?
A few years ago, we hosted a guest who came to Israel to learn more about his family’s roots and story. I was so moved by his story and passion and helped him find his great grandfather’s grave from World War I. I will cherish his gratitude forever.

What is the most unique question you’ve been asked by a guest?
One of our guests wanted me to give him the best route to walk from our hotel to Jerusalem with his teenage son. The look on his face was priceless when I told him the two cities are 43 miles apart, and the only connecting road between the two is a highway.
