Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel has injected an uplifting dose of island culture into its activities for guests, including hands-on fun and a live Polynesian performance.

Presented by Alohi Productions, the comprehensive Hawaiian and Polynesian program invites visitors to immerse themselves in the rich traditions of Hawaii, Tahiti and Aotearoa (New Zealand).

From Tuesdays through Saturdays, the hotel provides a variety of interactive cultural and educational pastimes, either for free or for a small fee. Among the opportunities are lessons in Polynesian dances, drumming, ukelele and arts and crafts such as lei making and shell jewelry. All ages can take part in ancient games including Hawaiian bowling, spear sliding, club sliding, checkers and spinning kukui nut tops.

In addition, island-style fashion shows, talk story sessions and impromptu hula dancing enliven the hotel’s beach bar, while a weekly Aloha Friday crafts fair fills the main lobby from 9 a.m – 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, as part of its new emphasis on culture, Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is featuring a twice-weekly evening performance that leads guests on a journey through life in Polynesia. The performance is called “Huakai: Polynesian Adventure” and shares the story of the islands through live music, storytelling and chant as well as traditional dance from the islands.

Presented in the hotel’s Kamani Showroom on Thursday and Saturday evenings from 7-8:15 p.m., Huakai costs $40 per adult, $18 per child ages 13-18 and is free for children 12 years old and younger. Guests can purchase food and drinks inside the showroom for an additional cost. For tickets, call 808-880-1111.
