After the success of “Broadway on the High Seas,” Playbill has announced the creation of Playbill Travel, which will expand the company’s programming to resort properties.

For the inaugural Broadway by the Sea event, Playbill Travel has arranged to take over the award-winning St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The program will include the best of live Broadway entertainment, including exclusive performances, interviews with actors, meet-and-greets and late-night Playbill After Dark activities with award-winning talent. Among the impressive number of Tony Award winners headlining the event is Tommy Tune (Seesaw, My One and Only, Nine, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, Grand Hotel, The Will Rogers Follies); Laura Benanti (Gypsy); “Smash” star Megan Hilty; Faith Prince (Guys and Dolls); Tony winner Paulo Szot (South Pacific); Donna McKechnie (A Chorus Line); and Christine Ebersole (42nd Street, Grey Gardens).

“The genesis of Broadway on the High Seas was to bring together theater lovers who also love travel,” said Philip S. Birsh, Playbill president and CEO. “When we started our cruises in 2011, we had no idea that they would be met with such a remarkable reception from the public and Broadway community alike. We’re excited that Playbill Travel will allow us to keep traveling the world with interesting people, great destinations and extraordinary talent.”

Broadway on the High Seas founding partner Judy Perl and Judy Perl Worldwide Travel will serve as the exclusive Playbill Travel program provider, coordinating all aspects of the new travel initiative, from resort scheduling to guest travel arrangements. Playbill’s Seth Rudetsky will serve as master of ceremonies, performer and music director.

Prices for the seven-night program begin at $7,790 per room, based on single or double occupancy. The Broadway by the Sea program is scheduled from Dec. 8-15.

Non-theater activities available to resort guests include tennis, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, bicycling, nature tours, hiking and jogging. The property includes an onsite athletic center, a Remede spa, two miles of private beach, a seaside pool esplanade, an outdoor hot tub, a poolside grill and private cabanas with butler service.
