Los Cabos may be known as one of Mexico’s hottest vacation destinations, but it’s also an in-demand place for meetings. Since hosting the 2012 G-20 Summit and welcoming an array of revamped and upgraded hotels in recent months, this hot spot on the Baja California peninsula is enjoying a higher profile than ever when it comes to staging attention-getting group gatherings.
One of the destination’s selling points is the availability of all-inclusive hotels of every size. These properties allow planners to provide added value for meetings, with plenty of options for perks, such as VIP upgrades, spa discounts, private check-in and hospitality desks. Here are a few of the top hotels in Los Cabos that serve a variety of group sizes.
Hotels for Small Groups
Groups with fewer than 100 people will find plenty of options in Los Cabos. Large hotels are capable of serving their needs, of course, but so are smaller properties, many of which offer unique experiences and a distinct sense of place. At the 83-room Bahia Hotel & Beach Club, for example, groups can make use of a 20-person meeting room, organize wellness retreats and even try private stand-up paddleboarding workshops at the property’s activity center.
At 66-room The Resort at Pedregal — which has a capacity of 80 people for meetings and events — small groups will find some of the best deals by taking advantage of the Spring & Fall Corporate Group Package, which is available in May, June, October and November of 2015 and 2016. The deal includes one suite or villa upgrade for every 15 confirmed rooms per night, roundtrip airport transfers, complimentary meeting room rental, complimentary beverage/break service for up to 30 guests, a free Mezcal Experience Tasting event and a $50 spa credit per person.
Memorable event venues are a selling point at Las Ventanas al Paraiso, a Rosewood Resort, which has 71 guestrooms; a conference room with capacity for private meetings of up to 25 guests or private receptions and dinners of up to 70 guests; and an outdoor plaza for up to 70 guests. Small-group events and private dinners can take place at the hotel’s restaurants, on the beach or in La Cava, a 3,000-bottle wine room.
Hotels for Midsize Groups
There’s no reason for groups of several hundred to feel lost — or bored — in giant hotels in Los Cabos. Savvy properties know how to combine productive workspaces with interesting activities and venues. Groups of up to 300 can gather in more than 5,800 square feet of meeting and event space at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort, for example, and then wrap up business with a 300-person private party on the main beach or a smaller gathering for 120 around a crackling fire pit.
Dreams Los Cabos Suites
Golf Resort & Spa has more than 8,000 square feet of meeting and event facilities, including a new, 5,156-square-foot Delphin ballroom with theater seating for 330 and banquet seating for 240. Guests can also feel pampered in the 213 recently renovated suites with private balconies, as well as at the upgraded Dreams Spa by Pevonia.
Still in renovation mode is the 243-room Westin Resort & Spa, Los Cabos, which is slated to reopen on July 1, 2016. The property, which has more than 11,900 square feet of indoor meeting and event space, organizes private beach parties, as well as events, on the Bugambilias Terrace, where attendees can sip cocktails around a fire pit while watching fireworks.
Hotels for Large Groups
The largest hotels in Los Cabos may be geared for big groups, but they still aim to make the meeting experience special. The 249-room Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos All Inclusive Golf & Spa, which has meeting facilities for up to 1,000 people, offers four outdoor areas for private theme parties and multiple banquet halls with terraces that offer inspiring views of the Sea of Cortez.
Open-air venues are also a draw at the 306-room Melia Cabo Real All Inclusive Beach & Golf Resort, which provides space for up to 1,100 attendees, with seven meeting rooms and two executive lounges. Group dinners can take place indoors or outdoors, and the private beach hosts up to 3,000 people for private events.
At the 270-room Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar Golf & Spa Resort, Los Cabos — which has 18,000 square feet of meeting and event space spread among eight venues — groups of more than 1,000 can enjoy a decidedly Mexican ambiance in the Hacienda Ballroom, where floral mosaics and iron chandeliers recall the elegance of a traditional hacienda. Also noteworthy is the property’s private chapel, where stained-glass windows and a high ceiling provide a dramatic backdrop for private dinners.
One thing is certain: Regardless of the size of the group, meeting attendees aren’t likely to mistake Los Cabos for yet another boring convention city.
