Capella Hotels and Resorts has recently announced the opening of the 59-room Capella Ixtapa, located in the Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa region of Mexico. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the cliff-side hotel is the first of four Capella Hotels and Resorts properties to open in Mexico.
“We couldn’t be more excited to unveil Capella Ixtapa,” said Romana Heeg, general manager, Capella Ixtapa. “We’re proud to be the first to introduce the Capella experience to Mexico and travelers from all over the world.”
Guestrooms and suites at the new resort range in size from 550 to 1,150-square-feet, each with airy outdoor terraces and individual plunge pools. Guestrooms also come equipped with a central computer system with controls for the room’s functions.
Dining options at Capella Ixtapa are plentiful. The fine dining restaurant, A Mares, is open nightly for dinner and serves local Mexican cuisine. Las Rocas, a rustic seafood restaurant, offers cliffside alfresco dining over the Pacific shoreline. Additionally, lunch and dinner are served at the multi-level Terrace Bar. Guests may also choose 24-hour room service or ask the resort to arrange a romantic dinner experience at a unique, on-site location.
Also notable, the Spa at Capella Ixtapa measures 6,000 square feet and is the region’s only full-service spa, wellness and fitness facility. It features six individual treatment rooms and an additional couples’ treatment room with a rain shower and Jacuzzi. Spa guests will be greeted with a foot cleanse and massage before being personally escorted to treatment rooms.
The sporty set will be pleased to know that the property is within close proximity to two, 18-hole championship golf courses. And activities such as golf or other off-site activities can be arranged by Capella’s signature Personal Assistant service.
Adding to its Mexico properties, the Capella brand plans to open Los Cabos’ Capella Pedregal in spring 2009. And Capella Bahia Maroma in Riviera Maya is scheduled for a spring 2009 opening, while Capella Nahui is set to open in Riviera Nayarit in winter 2010.
