Situated on the golden sands of Banderas Bay in Nuevo Vallarta, the all-inclusive property has recently received the coveted American Automobile Association (AAA) Five-Diamond Award for lodging. Grand Velas is the only luxury all-inclusive resort in the region and only family-friendly all-inclusive in North America to receive this AAA distinction. The honor is based on quality amenities, ambiance, cleanliness and extraordinary service.

Oscar Cruces, Grand Velas’ director general, is pleased with how quickly the resort was acknowledged.

“We are especially proud that just three years after opening, the point when a resort can qualify for Five Diamonds, we were honored by AAA,” he said. Not content to rest on its laurels, the property opened a new tower late last year, as well as a classic French restaurant and additional meeting rooms. Each year, AAA tourism editors visit over 70,000 lodgings, campgrounds, restaurants and attractions throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean to conduct unannounced evaluations at luxury establishments. Less than one third of 1 percent of the 32,000-plus properties approved by AAA achieve this prestigious honor.

A deluxe all-inclusive experience, the beachfront Grand Velas is a member of Leading Hotels of the World. Just 15 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta in Nuevo Vallarta, the upscale resort features 267 one- and two-bedroom oceanview suites with private terraces, spacious Spa Suites in its new tower and a new three-bedroom Imperial Suite.

Its 16,500-square-foot Spa Grand Velas presents 80 treatments in 20 treatment rooms and two couples rooms. The world-class facility was recently named Conde Nast Traveler’s “Most Excellent Spa Hotel.”

For dining, three gourmet restaurants combine artful presentations, tranquil atmospheres and a fusion of flavors. An oceanfront eatery and snack bar round out the culinary options.

Along with shopping, golf and sightseeing, guests can enjoy a three-temperature infinity pool, a Jacuzzi, poolside activities, beach volleyball, tennis, fitness center, use of iPod minis and 8,400 square feet of meeting space.

From Dec. 19-May 12, all-inclusive nightly rates are $1,030 per person for Parlor and Master suites based on single occupancy, or $540 per person based on double occupancy. From May 13-Dec. 21, 2007, rates are $810 and $430 respectively. Larger suite rates and special packages are also available. 877-398-2784
