The red carpets were rolled out when, last month, top-selling travel agents and members of the media attended the christening of Uniworld Boutique River Cruises’ newest vessel, the Super Ship Antoinette, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. During the christening, Antoinette “Toni” Tollman, the godmother and designer of the ship, spoke about the concepts behind the ship’s design, which began with her name and a chandelier that hung in the Tavern on the Green restaurant in New York’s Central Park.

“When Tavern on the Green closed, my [parents] bought the chandelier. Lucky for me, they didn’t have anywhere to hang it,” said Tollman about the 10-foot-tall Baccarat chandelier currently hanging in the Super Ship Antoinette’s two-story lobby. “Other concepts [behind the design of the ship] are Marie Antoinette, Versailles, 18th-century France and elegance.”

Notable features of the ship include a heated and mosaic-tile swimming pool and a 20-seat movie theater — the first of its kind in the industry. Staterooms boast marble bathrooms, flat-screen satellite televisions and windows that can be raised or lowered with the push of a button.

Later this year, Uniworld will launch the River Victoria in Russia and the Douro Spirit in Portugal.
