TravelAge West asked its Facebook fans what they would rather do this summer — tour or cruise? Based on the passionate responses, it’s clear that summer vacation is still top-of-mind, whether on land or in water. With 741 votes, cruising is the season favorite, but touring, which received 551 votes, has its share of devoted fans. The best response in the winning category received an iPad 3 and the best response in the second category received an iPod Touch. Kevin Hirsch of West Bloomfield, Mich., won for his poetic praise of cruising’s virtues, while David Taube, of Eugene, Ore., was our runner-up for his well-reasoned tribute to touring.

Hirsch on Cruising:
“No matter what the season, a cruise vacation is always most pleasin’! You’re never bored when you’re aboard — there’s a giant ship to be explored!

The activities are endless and the food is stupendous, the sheer amount of options is tremendous. Plus, it’s the ultimate chance to relax, as we float in a pool or the ocean on our backs. But of course, the ports provide great diversions, with adventurous and/or educational excursions. Cruising truly has it all, whether summer, spring, winter or fall. ”
