At this year’s Travel Retailing & Destination Expo (THETRADESHOW), which took place in Las Vegas, Sept. 11-13, ASTA revealed details about next year’s show in Los Angeles as well as more information on its upcoming International Destination Expo (IDE), taking place in Lima, Peru, March 1-4.
Next year’s THETRADESHOW will be held in Los Angeles, Sept. 7-9, at the L.A. Convention Center. Whereas this year’s show drew approximately 1,400 total travel professionals, L.A. Inc. is expecting to more than double that number with an estimated 3,000 participants, including 2,000 travel agents.
According to CEO Tony Gonchar, it’s important to expand the rotation of THETRADESHOW to include more destinations. While ASTA looks forward to working with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Association to hold events in Las Vegas in the future, ASTA will look to other destinations for THETRADESHOW in the coming years.
ASTA also revealed details about IDE in Peru, the first ASTA event to be held in South America. In addition to a certification course, trade show, networking and sightseeing opportunities, IDE will feature a number of pre- and post-event tours organized through Apotur, the country’s tour operator association. Tours include Cusco and Machu Picchu, the Nasca Lines and Ballestas Islands, Colca Canyon and Arequipa City, the Pre-Inca Northern Kingdoms and more. Special rates are offered for agents and detailed information is available on Apotur’s dedicated IDE website. www.apoturperu.org/ide2012peru; www.asta.org; www.thetradeshow.org
