The recent shooting of two local men in a Mazatlan hotel parking lot, along with other incidents that took place earlier in the year, prompted Norwegian Cruise Line to cancel Norwegian Star's calls in the port through April 30, after which time the line has no plans to sail along the Mexican Riviera. Norwegian Star will have two back-to-back days in Cabo San Lucas for the rest of its season.

Disney Cruise Line cut Mazatlan from this season's itineraries after incidents of violence took place earlier this year, and Carnival Cruise Lines announced that Carnival Splendor's March 3 call in Mazatlan was replaced with a second day in Cabo San Lucas. Carnival Spirit's March 2 call in Mazatlan was canceled, and the originally scheduled calls to Cabo San Lucas on Feb. 2 and Feb. 28 were modified due to the weather and changed to Feb. 28 and March 2, respectively. Carnival said that it is gathering information on the recent hotel incident before deciding on its future plans.

Holland America Line maintained Oosterdam's call in Mazatlan on March 2, and Princess Cruises, which had canceled a call there in January, has not made an announcement concerning its next visit, scheduled for March 16.

Oceania Cruises' new Marina will call in Puerto Vallarta rather than making its planned March 3 visit to Mazatlan.
