Cunard Line has appointed Inger Klein Olsen captain of the Queen Victoria. Olsen is the first female captain for the cruise line. Her first task was to take the ship to drydock in Hamburg, Germany, for its planned refit.

Olsen joined Cunard in 1997 as a first officer onboard Caronia. In 2001, she transferred to the Yachts of Seabourn where she sailed on the Seabourn Sun and the Seabourn Spirit before being promoted to staff captain onboard the Seabourn Pride in 2003. Olsen spent several years with other companies in the Carnival Corporation before returning in August 2010 as deputy captain of the Queen Victoria.

Olsen will helm the Queen Victoria during the ship’s debut Americas season commencing from New York to Los Angeles on Jan. 13.
