G’Day USA, a two-week program of events across five U.S. cities, is officially underway. The multi-faceted Australia tourism promotion kicked off at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and continues on to San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles, where the majority of events will take place.

Highlights include a star-studded black tie dinner honoring Australian actors Simon Baker and Toni Collette; a two-day food and culture exhibition in Beverly Hills, called Come Walkabout in Beverly Hills; and a agent training seminar for Qantas Vacations, Travel2 and Islands in the Sun.

Lyndel Gray, the executive director and general manager of tourism New South Wales; Wally Mariani, Qantas Airways executive vice president of the Americas; and celebrity chef Neil Perry are participating in much of the program in order to promote the partnership between the city of Sydney and Qantas Airways, which includes a $999 package to Sydney from LAX and airfares from LAX starting at $798. The airline offers daily nonstop service out of Los Angeles on a four-class Airbus A380.

“We want to get the message across that Sydney is the new alternative to a week-long Paris or Rome trip,” said Gray.
