The Mark Travel Corporation hosted its third visiting dignitary and official delegation from Mexico with the visit of Narciso Agundez, governor of Baja Sur California, Mexico, on June 20. Agundez toured the headquarters of The Mark Travel Corporation, Funjet Vacations, United Vacations, Trisept Solutions and Mark International in Milwaukee, then continued with lunch and preferred supplier meetings at the Wisconsin Club. Representatives from United Airlines, Karisma Resorts, Iberostar Resorts, Occidental Resorts and Barcelo Hotels and Resorts all were in attendance.
“The visit provided an opportunity for us to leverage our leadership position as the largest U.S. vacation packager to Mexico by bringing in many of the leading hotel companies to this important meeting and helping them find ways to also grow and expand with us,” said Ray Snisky, president of Funjet Vacations.



NEW CEO AT MIRAVAL
Miraval, Life in Balance, announced that John Vanderslice will become CEO, taking over the day-to-day operations of the company. Vanderslice comes to Miraval from Club Med, where he served as president and CEO for the Americas Region. He was responsible for six national and international business offices, as well as for resorts throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico, Brazil and the United States.
“We know that John’s expertise in the areas of branding, hospitality, real estate operations, product development and marketing will serve us well,” said Revolution Living CEO, Michael Crooke. v



SHAUGHNESSY TO DIRECTOR OF SALES
JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa announced the appointment of Dan Shaughnessy to director of sales. Shaughnessy comes to JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa from Palm Springs, Calif. Previously, Shaughnessy was director of market strategy/revenue management for three full-service resorts, including JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa, Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa, Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa and three select service properties throughout the Palm Springs area.
“I feel we have gained a major asset having Dan join us,” said Brad Colton, resort manager. “He is incredibly savvy when it comes to group and convention sales and his experience will prove invaluable to us.”



MERRYWELL PROMOTED
Windstar Cruises announced the promotion of Jodi Merrywell to director of marketing for the cruise line. She was recently manager of marketing services for Windstar, a position she held for over four years.
“Jodi brings a wealth of Windstar history and expertise with her to the director position,” said Diane Moore, VP of marketing and sales. “Her creativity, keen eye for graphic design and knowledge of the business will result in innovative projects and sales materials to further Windstar’s brand image as a leader in upscale, niche cruising.”
Merrywell graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in English literature.
