The India Ministry of Tourism (IMT), in partnership with major India hotels, airlines and tour operators, recently completed a multi-city India Road Show for agents last month. Cities visited included Los Angeles; San Francisco; Vancover, British Columbia; and Toronto.
Representatives from 26 different tour operators, along with Taj Hotels & Resorts, Air India and Jet Airways among others, participated. The show placed special emphasis on rural, medical and cruise tourism. In the last four years, tourism to India has increased by approximately 57 percent and an estimated 800,000 U.S. citizens visit the country each year, according to the IMT.
“The travel agents attending India’s Road Show were very appreciative and enthusiastic about the fact that so many representatives of India traveled so far to meet with them,” Sanjiv Vashist, assistant director for India Tourism Los Angeles told TravelAge West.
The IMT is currently celebrating Visit India Year 2009 with promotional packages through Dec. 31.
“India Tourism [is also planning] a major event in July to showcase the diverse cultural aspects of India at The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles,” Vashist added.
