Make It Work

Hard-working cosmetics

By: By Anne Burke

Every client has a favorite traveling companion. Mine is a cosmetics case full of hard-working beauty products. We get along great and never argue about whether the cathedral is this way or that way. Here are some beauty products that will make great traveling partners for your client’s next trip.

1. Take a powder
I.d. bareMinerals Multi-Tasking Minerals from Bare Escentuals is TSA-friendly and pulls triple duty as an over-all face concealer, eye-shadow base and under-eye concealer ($18). Use with Retractable Face Brush ($30), or take your powder on the road in the i.d. bareMinerals Refillable Mirror Compact, with carrying case and touch-up brush ($25).

2. Lip guard on duty
The Lip Guard SPF 15 from Bare Escentuals is a hydrating, tinted sunscreen containing natural ingredients like grape seed oil, aloe vera and shea butter, plus naturally derived SPF. Various shades ($14).

3. Travel pucks
Pocket-sized Beauty Pucks from Tantowel contain towelettes and pads for on-the-go face cleansing, deodorizing, polish and make-up removal. The cucumber eye pads will freshen up tired eyes after a long flight. 30 towelettes or pads per puck. $6.50 a puck or $30 for five.

4. Bronzed beauty
Today’s clients are hip to the dangers of sun exposure, but many still want to return home with a nice tan. The Tantowel Self-tan Towelette and the spray-on Tantowel Tanning Mist will give clients a natural-looking, indoor tan in a few hours. Tan lasts four to seven days and can be customized with additional applications. Tantowel 10-pack: $20; Tantowel Plus 10-pack: $24. Tanning Mist: $8 and $24.

5. Nail it
Sanitation standards at nail salons away from home can be a guessing game, but clients can play it safe by taking along their own kit. The Professional Manicure/Pedicure Nail Kit from Sephora includes cuticle nipper and pusher, nail clipper and buffer, file brush, toe separators and pumice stone ($42). Too busy for the salon? Fake a French manicure with Sephora’s Nail Whitening Pencil ($3.50).

6. Tool time
This cool-looking Midnight Tool Box from Sephora fits a weekend’s worth of beauty essentials, hair and makeup brushes, combs, accessories and jewelry. Small enough to fit inside a tote bag at 7½ inches by 5 inches by 5 inches ($35).
