After 20 years in operation, Silverseas has named its first female captain. Margrith Ettlin, who has worked aboard Silverseas vessels since 2010 and has logged extensive hours in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, began her first tour as captain earlier this month at the helm of 132-passenger ship Silver Explorer. Prior to joining the Silverseas team Ettlin worked for Germany’s F. Laeisz shipping group.

“We’re very pleased and proud to extend this promotion to Captain Ettlin,” said Christian Sauleau, Silversea's executive vice president of fleet operations. “Although we’re not the first cruise company to have a female captain, we hope Captain Ettlin's achievement will inspire other women to pursue careers at sea.”
