Air-India, the national carrier of that country, on June 11 will begin direct service from Los Angeles International Airport to Mumbai.

The only direct flights available from the West Coast to India, the new service will reduce flying time by several hours. The flights will be operated by Boeing 747-400s with flatbed seats sometimes featured in first class.

“The expansion of our service to Los Angeles is a vital move for Air-India,” said Seema Andhare, the airline’s regional director for the U.S. and Canada.

“With a growing Asian-Indian population on the West Coast and more Americans traveling to India from there for business and vacation, there is an increasing demand for faster, more convenient flights.”

The new flight will depart LAX every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, at 7:10 p.m., arriving in Mumbai at 3:45 a.m. two days later, local time.

The return flight departs Mumbai at 7:10 a.m. and arrives at LAX at 4:35 p.m. the same day.
