The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority (SVGTA) has named Yvonne Armour-Shillingford CEO. Armour-Shillingford is a seasoned tourism and hospitality veteran and the first person to hold the new post. She was most recently one of four Caribbean Tourism Organization consultants to work on the Caribbean Regional Sustainable Tourism Development Programme. During her six-year tenure, she managed the human resource development component of the $10 million project.
In her new position, Armour-Shillingford’s main focus will be to increase St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ profile as an off-the-beaten-track destination.
“A big part of our appeal is that St. Vincent and the Grenadines are not overdeveloped. Our biggest challenge is to preserve the balance between smart growth and our invaluable pristine allure,” Armour-Shillingford told TravelAge West. “We must make sure we don’t lessen the reasons our American visitors have for vacationing here.”
