Magazine publishing is a collaborative art, with the entire staff maximizing their own personal skills and directing their individual talents toward making the final product as successful as possible.
For this reason, I find it especially exciting to welcome new members to our team because I know their efforts will have a direct impact not just on the individual stories we publish, but on the direction of the magazine as a whole. And in this issue, I have the unusual pleasure of introducing not one, but three new names to our masthead.
To begin with, Marilyn Green has joined the magazine as Contributing Editor, Cruise. Many of you may know Marilyn as she’s a veteran cruise journalist with 25-plus years of experience. She has written for a few of the other travel trade publications, and most notably was the cruise editor at Travel Trade. Marilyn’s byline has also appeared in some of the top consumer titles including Travel + Leisure, Islands, Delta Sky and others.
“I’m delighted to be working with the gifted team at TravelAge West,” she said, “and to help agents in the West keep abreast of trends in the complex and constantly changing cruise industry.”
Next, Deanna Ting has taken the position of Associate Editor. Deanna is a graduate of UCLA and is a former intern at TravelAge West. Before rejoining us, Deanna worked as associate editor at WSAToday, a trade magazine for the shoe industry. But Deanna said she’s not worried about leaving the perks of free designer shoes behind.
“I am so excited to be returning to TravelAge West,” she said. “I’m looking forward to getting reacquainted with travel agents and the travel industry as a whole.”
Finally, Skye Mayring joins the staff as Assistant Editor. Skye is also a graduate of UCLA, and has written for the Robb Report, The Hollywood Reporter and URB magazine, among others. She is an experienced online reporter as well.
I hope you will join me in welcoming all our new faces when you see them on the road and at various events. I’ve already told them what great readers we have, and I know they are looking forward to meeting you all. K.S.
