The Spanish government recently appointed Isabel Borrego as the secretary of state for tourism and Manuel Butler as the director of the Tourism Institute of Spain – Turespana.

Borrego has served as an advisor in the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Planning for the region of Madrid since 2007. She indicated that her immediate priority is to develop Spain’s “main export industry” and noted the significance of tourism to Spain’s economy.

Butler has served as the director of the Spanish Tourism Office for the U.K., Germany, Colombia, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and the southeastern U.S.
