As I write this, I have just returned from the annual Cruise3Sixty conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. As always, it was one of the most important events of the year for the cruise industry, with 2,000 agents participating (see story here). That kind of attendance alone is inspiring in this economic environment, but while I was there I had the opportunity to talk with Van Anderson, co-president of America’s Vacation Center (AVC), and he introduced me to the Together We Thrive pin.
The pin — a green ribbon — was originated by AVC as part of its overall Agent Stimulus program for the sole purpose of creating a feeling of solidarity within the travel industry. The idea is for all of us to put aside our minor differences and do whatever it takes to promote travel to the general public. Anderson said the program is a natural fit for AVC because the people there are already committed to an optimistic, "shared success" approach.
"We’re in favor of working with other agencies and other players as long as it strengthens the agent distribution channel overall" Anderson said. "This is a situation where we believe a rising tide really can lift all boats."
