Attendees at the recent 2011 Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA) Summit in Irvine, Calif., colorfully demonstrated their commitment to the importance of travel as part of a student’s complete education. Donning wigs in many different styles, SYTA member tour operators celebrated at the First Annual Wine & Wig Benefit with $15,000 in proceeds from ticket and wig sales going to support the programs of the SYTA Youth Foundation (SYF). Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, SYF provides scholarships and other financial assistance to children who would otherwise be unable to participate in school and group-based travel experiences.

The Wine & Wig Benefit is a new addition to the SYTA Summit schedule, which is rich with educational and networking opportunities for SYTA and prospective SYTA members. This year’s Summit featured a dynamic keynote presentation from Micah Solomon, a customer-service expert and co-author of the business bestseller Exceptional Service, Exceptional Profit: The Secrets of Building a Five-Star Customer Service Organization, interactive sessions with Geno Church, author of “Brains On Fire,” as well as a variety of educational workshops on topics of prime industry interest from motorcoach safety to crisis communication. Attendees also had the opportunity to enjoy complimentary one-on-one strategic sessions with SYTA’s marketing and legal experts.
