Travel Managers vs. Web Fares

Study: Web fares interfere with corporate travel policy

Web fares are interfering with corporate travel policy, according to 55% of travel managers polled recently by Northstar Travel Media Research in Secaucus, N.J.

But while business travelers are surfing for deals, an average of just 4.8% of actual bookings are occurring outside of policy, due to Web fare discounts.

Still, more than one-third (37%) of the 482 online survey respondents are concerned that employees’ use of Web fares will jeopardize their airline deals.

To minimize the use of Web fares, 41% of travel managers are reminding employees about proper booking procedures and 25% are implementing a Web fare search tool that can be used within corporate policies, the poll found.

The survey was produced by Meetings & Conventions magazine and will be distributed with its October issue, as well as with certain other Northstar publications. Northstar is the parent company of TravelAge West.
