Viking River Cruises christened its newest vessel, the Viking Legend, last month in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The ceremony was attended by the ship’s godmother, Stevi M. Tracas, wife of Vacation.com (Vcom) president and CEO Steve Tracas.
“Stevi is very familiar with the travel industry and has firsthand knowledge of our products,” said Michele Saegesser, Viking vice president of sales for North America and the South Pacific. “For three consecutive years, Vcom has recognized Viking as Specialty Cruise Line of the Year during its annual Power of Partnership Awards. It seemed only fitting for us to honor them for their ongoing support and for being our top-producing travel marketing organization. There is no higher honor we could give to such an important partner than to be a part of the christening of our newest ship.”
Legend has 97 staterooms, including two suites, 90 deluxe doubles and five singles, with the majority of rooms offering French balconies. The ship’s propulsion system is powered by a green diesel-electric hybrid engine, and the ship also boasts innovative noise- and vibration-reduction features. In 2010, the ship will sail a Tulips & Windmills itinerary through Holland and Belgium, followed by a season of cruising Viking’s popular Grand European Tour along the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.
