Citing unprecedented demand, Scenic Cruises, a division of Scenic Tours, has announced the commission of a second new Space Ship to be delivered in 2014. This comes on the heels of the company’s April announcement of the new Scenic Gem, custom-built for sailing on France’s Seine River in 2014; the completion of a $10 million rebuild to the current fleet sailing the Rhine, Main, Danube, Moselle and Black Sea routes; and the recent launch of the Scenic Jewel. Scenic Jade will bring the company’s fleet to nine vessels and will be deployed on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.
Scenic Tours general manager, sales and marketing, Michelle Black said that the company has already seen a strong response to their 2014 Europe program and that caused the decision to expedite the building of the ninth ship in order to create additional capacity for the 2014 season.
In addition to the nine Space Ships, Scenic has a smaller ship in Russia — the Scenic Tsar — launched less than a year ago. And the group will command more market share next year with the launch of sister company, Evergreen Tours, coming into the market with two new ships that are yet to be named.
“The group’s overall investment in new ships for 2014 is now at $90 million,” said Black. “It’s a true testament to both the popularity of river cruising and the demand for the ultimate all-inclusive luxury experience that Scenic Tours continues to deliver.”
