Responding to the demand for a healthy lifestyle on vacation, AmaWaterways is expanding its wellness program, which was piloted earlier in the year on AmaLyra. Spearheaded by dedicated Wellness Hosts, the program will be onboard AmaLyra, AmaCerto, AmaPrima, AmaSonata, AmaDante and AmaDolce in 2018.
Kristin Karst, executive vice president and co-owner of AmaWaterways, sees a strong trend toward healthy travel among passengers, who she says are notably trimmer these days and want to take their healthy lifestyle with them when they leave home.
The program Ama has designed includes opportunities for active excursions, onboard exercise and healthy dining. Guests booking a sailing that offers the Wellness Program are encouraged to pack a bathing suit, comfortable exercise clothes and appropriate shoes for morning stretches, jogging, yoga, cardio/core strengthening, resistance band workouts and circuit training.
All exercise equipment is provided onboard, along with bikes, helmets and Nordic walking sticks. The activities are complemented by discussion groups with a focus on healthy eating and relaxation techniques.
In addition to the Wellness Program, AmaWaterways incorporates healthy food options into the dining experience. Guests have access to hydration stations, breakfast vitamin shots, fresh fish, cage-free eggs and crate-free pork, as well as gluten-free, low-sodium and vegetarian options for meals.
AmaWaterways’ European ships also offer complimentary bicycles, used in groups for guided excursions or reserved separately for independent cycling. Each ship in the European fleet is equipped with a massage room, a fitness room with a treadmill, a stationary bike, a whirlpool or a swimming pool and a walking track.
