New Tour Operator Explores Jewish Heritage in China
New Los Angeles-based tour operator Pan Pacific Journeys is offering an escorted tour that delves into the history and heritage of the Jewish experience in China.
The 13-day tour, which is led by a Chinese-American scholar, travels through Beijing, Harbin, Xian, Guilin and Shanghai. Tour highlights include Shabbat (Jewish sabbath) dinners in Beijing and Shanghai; extensive sightseeing and visits in Harbin, which once had the largest Jewish population in the Far East; a visit to the New Synagogue, home of Harbin’s Jewish History & Culture Exhibition Hall; a visit to the Huangshan Jewish Cemetery, which has more than 600 tombstones that are engraved in Russian and Yiddish; a visit to the newly renovated Ohel Moshe Synagogue; and a trip to Hongkou, where more than 20,000 Jewish refugees from World War II once lived; and more.
