Named after the exotic tropical flower, Protea Cafe has opened its doors at Outrigger Luana Waikiki. Serving three meals each day, the boutique eatery is promising “fresh fare and reasonable prices.” Breakfast options range from cranberry-walnut French toast to gourmet egg dishes accompanied by coffee drinks, fruit smoothies and fresh-squeezed juices. Lunch and dinner items reflect the multicultural make-up of the islands, including Moroccan hummus, kalua pork quesadillas, salads with local greens, gourmet sandwiches, handmade thin-crust pizzas and classic pasta dishes.
