Lights! Camera! Kauai!

New "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie is yet another movie using Kauai as a backdrop

Another blockbuster Hollywood movie has used Kauai as its backdrop. "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the newest sequel in Walt Disney Pictures' hit series, sails into theaters on May 20. Filmed on Kauai, the flick stars Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa. Pirates is the latest in a long string of movies and television shows to call on the island's natural beauty as a scenic stage, following such hits as "South Pacific," "Blue Hawaii," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "The Thorn Birds," "Jurassic Park" and "Tropic Thunder." In Dec. 2011, watch for the opening of yet another big-screen feature filmed on Kauai: "The Descendants," starring George Clooney.
