Ever since Koloa Rum Company started distilling spirits made from Kauai-grown sugarcane and local waters, it’s been turning heads and tantalizing tastebuds. Now, four of its rums have brought home awards from the 2012 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, an impressive achievement considering there were 1,215 premium spirits entered from 60 countries. The company’s Kauai Spice and Gold rums won silver medals, while the Kauai Dark and White earned the bronze. Located at Kilohana Plantation in Lihue, the distillery’s retail shop has launched a new rum experience on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 5:15 p.m., when clients can learn about the making of the island-inspired elixir. www.kilohanakauai.com
