Hands-On Learning in Istanbul

Families looking for an educational travel experience have an extended opportunity to take walking tours in Istanbul with Context Travel’s newly expanded family program By: Kelly Rosenfeld

Families looking for an educational travel experience have an extended opportunity to take walking tours in Istanbul with Context Travel’s newly expanded family program. The company has launched two new walking tours, designed specifically for kids up to 12 years old and created by museum educators and teachers.

The three-hour Sultan’s Way tour takes families to Turkey’s Topkapi Palace with a trained Ottoman historian for hands-on learning experiences. Kids enjoy a series of fun and engaging activities that introduce the basic ideas of Ottoman history and the power of the Ottoman Empire. Young Archaeologists of the Ancient Orient, which focuses on Istanbul’s Archaeological Museum, is designed for families with children between elementary and middle school. Kids on this tour play the part of archaeologists for 2½ hours, using objects from Mesopotamia to the Ottoman period to reveal a tale of ancient empires. www.contexttravel.com
