In October, Italy’s first female rabbi, Barbara Aiello, will lead The Southern Italy Through Jewish Eyes tour with Smiles and Miles Travel. This two-part trip focuses on some of Italy’s oldest Jewish sites. Travelers will tour the medieval Jewish Quarter in Nicastro, participate in a symposium at the Ferramonti di Tarsia concentration camp with camp survivors and visit ancient Jewish baths in the island district of Ortigia, among other activities. The full nine-day trip begins Oct. 1 at a rate of $5,395. Touring for just five nights costs $2,475.

“Here’s a rare opportunity to see parts of Italy that few tourists visit and to meet local residents and guest scholars who will share little-known stories and secrets of southern Italy,” said Rabbi Aiello. “It truly is a chance of a lifetime.” www.smilesandmilestravel.com
