Clear Closes

Clear ceased operations after parent company, Verified Identity Pass, Inc., was unable to secure enough credit to continue its business

July 3, 2009

On June 22, leading Registered Traveler operator Clear ceased operations after its parent company, Verified Identity Pass, Inc., was unable to secure enough credit to continue its business.

The Clear program, which allowed registered travelers to bypass long lines at airport security, collected individual customer’s personal information.

The company is assuring customers that their personal information will remain secure and that each Clear hard disk at the airport will be wiped clean of all data and software using a special triple-wipe process. Clear will notify customers in a final e-mail message when their information has been deleted. The company is also working with the Transportation Security Administration, airport and airline sponsors and other subcontractors to maintain the security of its customers’ information.

Clear customers will not be issued any refunds and are encouraged to visit the company’s Web site, FlyClear.com, for the latest updates. At press time, Verified Identity Pass had not yet filed for bankruptcy.
