Deilmann Shutters River Cruise Business

Company is closing its river cruise business in 2010

July 3, 2009

Late last month, Peter Deilmann Cruises announced that it is closing its river cruise business in 2010, taking all nine of its ships out of service due to insolvency. All of its river cruises booked through the end of October 2009 will, however, continue to be honored.

Deilmann has been operating river cruises since 1983 and both owned and operated all nine of its river cruise ships, selling river cruises to U.S. and European markets. Recent reports have noted that Deilmann’s number of river cruise passengers has been in decline and that unfavorable currency exchange rates attributed to the business’
financial troubles. (Deilmann’s parent company, Peter Deilmann Reederi, has its company headquarters in Holstein, Germany.)

The line will continue operating its ocean-going cruise ship, the Deutschland, which carries 513 passengers.
