Spokane Regional CVB Earns Unprecedented Accreditation

Spokane is the first destination in Washington State to attain this goal

June 16, 2009

The Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau has earned accreditation from the Destination Marketing Association International's (DMAI) Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP). Only 93 destinations worldwide have achieved the distinction, and Spokane is the first destination in Washington State to attain that goal.

Having earned the DMAP accreditation, destination marketing organizations can communicate to their community, buyers and potential visitors that their organization has attained a significant measure of excellence.

"The application process for this accreditation was incredibly comprehensive and required input from nearly everyone in our organization," said Spokane Regional CVB president Harry Sladich. "We worked very hard to earn this honor. The accreditation will become just one more way that the Spokane region sets itself apart from thousands of other destinations worldwide while reinforcing our value to our major funding sources."

DMAP accreditation standards cover a wide variety of topics including governance, finance, management, human resources, technology, visitor services, group services, sales, communications, membership, brand management, destination development, research/market intelligence, innovation and stakeholder relationships.

"By applying for and receiving DMAP accreditation, the Spokane Regional CVB has demonstrated a commitment to quality programs and services," said DMAP board chair Christine Shimasaki. "All of their marketing operations and business practices have conformed to 16 domains ranging from governance to sales to innovation. Their accreditation underscores their dedication to providing exceptional leadership and commitment to the professionalism of destination marketing organizations across the globe."
